Okay, I will explain with an AKC litter of Toy Poodles that we had this past December. We have two gorgeous males. We always use a smaller stud to a larger girl, never the other way around. You want your stud smaller.
We have one female that we took in, that has super short legs. Everything about her personality and health is just perfect, and we love her to death, but then there are those bench legs. One of the AKC guidelines on poodles is that they should be built like a box. Mona Lisa, the female poodle that I'm referring to, is built like a rectangle. We bred her to our small male poodle that is more leggy. The end result was the perfect tiny toy poodles that were more boxy! That is how we accomplished that specification in the guidelines that had been lost with a previous breeder. Tada, there is your example. You should be able to find all your breed specifications and guidelines on the AKC website, if this is something that you are researching.
AKC stands for American Kennel Club. You can visit the AKC website here http://www.akc.org
