What to do about male dogs marking inside the house.

First I want to mention that male dogs are great pets!!!  If you are not using as a stud the two keys to keeping them from marking is consistency when they are a puppy and getting them fixed early.  Before we hard our first female teacup poodle, I always had male dogs.  Many think that males are just a problem, but they aren't.  Most of the males that I have had are more loving, loyal, and easy to train than females.  Do not be discouraged by purchasing or adopting a male.

Now, I get many questions regarding our two stud dogs and how we handle them in the house.  We have one stud, DaVinci, who isn't too bad about marking.  Havoc on the other hand is terrible.  We now have 8 females and 2 males, so "training" the studs not to "mark" is next to impossible.  What we do is use what we call "penis wraps".  I'm sure there is some better name out there, but that is what we call them.  They serve two purposes for us. The first is that the males can't pee on your furniture or shoes, and the second is that we don't have accidental breeding when a bitch is in heat.  They have them in those dog catalogs, and some pet stores, but they are super expensive.

We also purchase cheap feminine pads that have the sticky tape on the back.  We cut those pads in half (you don't need to use a whole pad, unless you have a extremely large male dog that is well endowed) and stick them to the inside of the "penis wrap".  Tada, your done.  Just keep the "penis wraps" clean, and change the pads frequently so that your male dog doesn't get any infections or stinky.

I will include directions and a sample pattern on my next blog.
